Road trips can take you to some of the most beautiful places and create memories that last a lifetime. Jumping in the car and driving to destinations near or far can be fun and exciting. The scenic views, roadside stops, and travel games are things to look forward to along the way. Whether your trip is planned or spontaneous, here are some road trip apps that you’ll want to download to add convenience and adventure to your journey.

Flush

Flush is a crowdsourced app that shares where to find restrooms on road trips or whenever you’re out and about. There’s even indicators to tell you if the restroom is handicap accessible, requires a key, or requires a passcode. Keep in mind that since the information in this app is crowdsourced, it’s updated by the users of the app. Therefore, the information is only as good as what’s been put into the app. Overall, it still gives you a good place to start searching for restrooms when traveling. Locations such as Walmart and grocery stores are always good bets.

Seek

If you are looking for a way to keep kids entertained while traveling, try Seek. This app entertains and educates at the same time. It allows you to quickly identify various species found in nature. This includes fish, birds, insects, plants and more. Just open the app, confirm your location, and select what species you want to identify. Then click the camera icon to take a picture. The results will come back shortly. Seek also offers challenges that allow you to compete with others who use the app, and you can earn badges.

Wifi Map

The Wifi Map app helps you locate nearby wifi. It tells you when the wifi is free and when a passcode is needed. In some cases, it will share the passcode. These passcodes are crowdsourced so they may not always be up-to-date. If you upgrade to the paid services ($29,99 per year), you can get the app with no ads as well as secure VPN connection. This app is a perfect resource for digital nomads. The Wifi Map app also offers a free built-in currency converter, a world clock, and a tip calculator.

All Trails

The All Trails app provides information on hiking, walking, biking and other trails. It can be used both domestically and internationally. You can search for trails by destination or select the option to explore nearby trails. Search results will give you directions to the trail, length of the trail, elevation information, time to complete the trail, and level of difficulty of the trail. Other information provided is whether the trail is dog-friendly, kid-friendly, and you can read reviews from other travelers. All trails offer an option to share a link to the trail information for free, but you must pay a fee to download the trail map to use offline.

NPS

NPS is the U.S. National Park Services app that shares all things related to national parks including locations, news, and events. You can search for parks that are near you, in specific states, or you can search by the park’s name if you know it. The NPS app also lists activities available in each park and you can view the park’s webcam when one is available.
