Yes, it's 2021 and we're still fighting for equal rights. Even though the world is evolving, there are some places evolving slowly, while others are advancing more rapidly. That's why it's important to understand a country's view on gender, race, and any other important social matters before visiting.

We developed this list of five safe countries for women to visit. However, there are many other countries that are great for women travelers. Here are the five we've listed:

Finland

If you're a nature lover, Finland is the country for you. Finland is located in Northern Europe; therefore, it can get very cold. If you're looking for winter activities, the best time to visit is between December and March. For long summer days, you'll want to visit between June and August. Finland's capital, Helsinki is full of fashion, art, and water activities - making it a can't miss destination. You can also catch the Northern Lights in Northern Lampland. Rent a cozy cabin and take in one of the beauties of the world.

Switzerland

Famous for its Swiss Alps, cheese, chocolate, and much more, Switzerland is another European country deemed safe for women travelers. It's also a great country for nature lovers. However, cities like Zurich and Geneva are great for city-lovers. In addition to its larger cities and mountainous landscapes, Switzerland is full of little cute towns such as Bern, Lucerne, and Wengen if you're looking for a step off the beaten path.

Uruguay is located on the south eastern coast of South America. Uruguay was ranked the number one most peaceful country out of 11 in its region in the 2020 Global Peace Index. With mainly warm weather, Uruguay can be great to visit any time of the year. In this article by International Living, they name Uruguay as a "Latin American Safe Haven". Sounds like a great place to relocate to for those looking to retire!

Japan

Looking for an Asian escape, visit Japan. With Tokyo as its capital, Japan is nothing short of an amazing vacation destination. You can visit Mount Fuji, enjoy a tea ceremony, explore a Buddhist Temple, and learn calligraphy and origami. Japan ranks in the top 10 safest countries in the Global Peace Index and has one of the lowest global crime rates - making it safe for all types of travelers.

Namibia

Last but certainly not least, Namibia. Namibia is one of the under-rated countries at the moment, but up-and-coming. The Namib Desert is absolutely jaw-dropping. Take a road trip or book a safari and explore Namibia's natural beauty and exotic wildlife. After the civil war in 2002, violence has come to an end. However, as with many counties, pickpocketing and muggings do occur near ATMs. Be mindful when withdrawing cash and secure your cash in a safe location.
