I took my first glamping trip and it was everything that I expected! Whether you’ve been camping all your life or if you’re a city dweller and have never been camping, you will find glamping an experience of a lifetime.
What is glamping? Glamping is short for glamorous camping. It's ideal for those who prefer a mattress, running water, private bathroom, and other comforts of home when camping. Instead of a traditional tent, when glamping, you stay in deluxe tents, upgraded or luxury cabins, tiny houses, high-end RV’s, yurts, and other non-primitive lodging. Here’s some tips for beginner glampers:
Even if you’re glamping in an RV, use the shower facilities at the campground when you can. This saves you room in your gray water tank. Depending on how long you’re glamping, you may need it. I learned this lesson the hard way!
Pack extra bug spray or bring insect zappers. Setting off a backyard fogger will be helpful to keep mosquitos and no-see-ums away.
Time flies. Wake up early so you can enjoy all of the activities your glamping destination has to offer.
Don’t overpack. Take the essentials and leave the extras. There’s usually a town nearby if you really need those things.
Plan to disconnect. Wifi and cell reception can be weak or even non-existent at some glamping locations like campgrounds and in national and state parks. Bring some games, puzzles, books, or other activities that don’t require connection. If you must have a Wifi connection, look into getting a mobile hotspot.
Glamping activities are very similar to camping activities. So here’s some things to do on a glamping trip. Hiking or walking is a staple. There will most likely be some nearby trails where you can get some exercise and explore your surroundings. Try using the Seek app to learn more about the things you find in nature.
If there’s a river or lake near your campground, fishing is also a good bet. It’s a great way to fill up a half or whole day. As a bonus, you get to make a meal out of your daily catch. Other water activities include boating, canoeing, rafting, swimming or just wading in the water.
Another great activity is planning a photoshoot. Nature is a great backdrop for family photos, couples photos, solo travel pics, and for influencer pics.
You certainly can’t forget the campfire. Grab yourself some S'mores fixings and a stick for grilling and have yourself an evening snack while you gaze at the stars and tell stories.
