Traveling does not mean you have to let your eco-friendly habits go right out the window. You can still do your part for the environment even when you are away from home.
We all have faced the challenge of what to pack for a trip. When taking an eco-friendly vacation, you want to be extra conservative. Here are some eco-friendly things that should be on your list.
Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Soap
Don’t buy the travel bottles at the store; they tend to be one-time use bottles. Get yourself some good silicone bottles to put all your hair care products and body soap in. They can be used again and again. Remember to use 3 - 4-ounce size containers if you want to bring them on the plane with you.
An Eco-friendly or Organic Sunscreen
Many sunscreens are harmful to the environment. Using an organic sunscreen with minimal ingredients or one where the only active ingredient being zinc oxide is healthier for you. It is also better for the environment because the chemicals are not running off your body and into the surf and sand at the beach.
Reusable Shopping Bags
You most likely will buy souvenirs or go to a store while on your trip. Pack your reusable shopping bags to bring with you when you do your shopping. This also allows you to say no thank you to the plastic bags that the stores offer you.
Reusable Water Bottle and/or Travel Mug
While out and about, you will need to stay hydrated. Bring your own water bottle and travel mug for drinking water and coffee while you are vacationing. Pack it in your carry-on if you’re taking a flight so you can use it on the plane and do not have to use their non-biodegradable plastic cups.
Solar Charges
If you’re bringing electronics, they will need to be charged. Consider using solar chargers for your electronic devices. This way, you also will not have to worry about finding a plug to charge your device.
Reusable Snack Bags
If you are planning to pack a lunch or some snacks for your day at the beach, it will be good to have reusable containers to put the food in. Packing a collapsible cooler can be useful. They are great for restaurant doggy bag; especially if you are not going right back to your hotel room.
This is just a small sampling of what you should be packing on your eco-friendly vacation. There are many other things you can do to help with being more conscious of the environment.
